Vitamin B12 is a crucial part in the running of our bodies. It plays a key role in protecting our nervous system, our body’s ‘command centre’. Vitamin B12 deficiency has a wide range of other symptoms that may be present.
These include:
• Tiredness
• Feeling lethargic (a lack of energy)
• Feeling faint
• Becoming breathless
• Pins and needles
• Depression and confusion
• Problems with memory, understanding and judgement
The reason for these symptoms is due to a lack of oxygen in the body.

DON’T MISS

One of the roles Vitamin B12 plays is making new red blood cells.

It is these cells which carry oxygen around your body.

If left untreated, you can develop further complications as a result of not having enough B12.

As well as issues with your nervous system you might experience heart conditions, pregnancy complications, potential birth defects and fertility problems.

A lack of vitamins in your diet is another cause.

Vitamin B12 is present in meats, fish, milk, cheese eggs and some breakfast cereals.

Folate deficiency anaemia can also be caused by some medicines such as anticonvulsants, used to treat epileptic seizures, and proton pump inhibitors which ease the symptoms of acid reflux and treat stomach ulcers.

If you have any questions or concerns always make sure to contact your doctor or contact the NHS for more information.
